Design: Mata Design / Fitout: Imperial Interiors / Photography: Ross Wallace / High ceilings create an airy spacious interior within the store however the building's orientation only allows natural light to enter through its windows in the late afternoon. A combination of direct and ambient light was used to overcome this, creating a light and bright space for customers. Track lighting was utilised to provide targeted illumination, highlighting products on display. Adjustable track luminaires in a range of beam angles were installed along lengths of track mounted to the 4-metre-high ceiling in a rectangular layout through the centre of the store and in short runs across the window displays. Track lighting was a functional and flexible solution for the space as track luminaires can be easily repositioned anywhere along the track to suit changes in product displays or updates to the store design. Customised lengths of a slender aluminium extrusion were mounted via rods inside all the glass display cases, showcasing items on display. These lengths of profile are adjustable allowing the light to be aimed towards the products and away from customers. Extensive amounts of time and coordination went into the planning and manufacturing of these profiles to ensure that the installation within the display cases was clean and precise. Custom lengths of a micro-sized profile provide ambient light whilst illuminating all wall shelving along with the large sunglasses display with even diffused light. Track-adapted spherical pendant lights with opal glass diffusers create an understated feature and provide another source of ambient light, whilst three larger spherical pendants were suspended over the stairwell behind a sheer curtain, creating a large-scale lighting feature.
